Morrocoy Marine National Park is an area of mangroves, channels, lagoons and beautiful coral islands. This is the habitat of many birds like scarlet ibis, pink flamingoes, pelicans, spoonbills and also a marvelous underwater life, ideal for diving. Morrocoy was established in 1974, is just over 32 000 hectares and includes a coastal zone and offshore area with islands, islets and cays. Many islands are covered by deserted white sand beaches surrounded by coral reefs and lapped by calm, crystal blue waters, ideal for scuba diving. Their marine resources are probably the most important asset, since many of the islands, cays and mangroves provide adequate space for the flourishing of its biological wealth with a generous variety of fish, crustaceans, mollusks and varied coral formations. The shallow waters and white sand bottoms promote exceptional visibility, which, together with its mild temperatures and multicolored fish have contributed to the popularity or snorkeling and scuba diving throughout the area.
