La Tortuga Island

This paradisiac island is located to the south of the Caribbean Sea to 170 kilometers of Caracas. The shape of the island is similar to an ellipse of 12 kilometers; measured from North to South and 25 kilometers from East to West. It has along with the adjacent cays approximately 157 square kilometers in extent; which makes it the second largest island of Venezuela; after Margarita. The island does not have asphalted roads and transport on the island is done by sea; using boats. It does not have airports; but has a landing strip for light aircraft. It is a beautiful island with warm turquoise waters and soft white sand. It is very visited by migratory birds and fishermen who frequent the island between the months of September and April. During this time you can catch species such as corocoros; rays; grouper; snappers and lobsters. It is a desert island: its only inhabitants are fishermen. Tourist spots: Punta Delgada; Punta Oriental; Carenero Bay; Cayo Herradura; Los Tortuguillos. Accommodation is possible only in tents.
