Caracas - Canaima / Angel Falls & Margarita Island

Arrival Caracas. Reception at airport and transfer to our hotel. Hotel Ole Caribe (4*) or similar.

Caracas – Canaima. Breakfast at hotel, and transfer for our flight to Canaima via Puerto Ordaz. Reception at airstrip and transfer to our lodge for a 2-night stay, including all meals. In the afternoon we have included an amazing excursion to Sapo Falls. We board our dugout canoes at Canaima beach, and cross Canaima lagoon with impressive views of its seven waterfalls. A short walk through savannah, and we start walking behind the impressive water curtain of Sapo Falls! It is a truly exhilarating experience: a cliff to the right, the roaring falls to the left, and water spray everywhere. Once on the other side of the curtain, we walk to the top of the falls for a wonderful view of the Tepuy landscape. Return to Canaima beach. Afternoon at leisure. We can just relax at Canaima lagoon and enjoy the magical surroundings, or choose from a variety of optional excursions. Between the rainforest of the Amazon basin and the watershed of the Orinoco River, is a rugged wall of remote mountains and deep, heavily forested canyons. This is Canaima National Park. Many of the mountains have precipitous rock walls that rise thousands of meters where they end in an almost perfectly flat top. These formations are known by their Indian name: Tepuyes. Originally, the tops of the tepuyes were joined together in a vast continuous plateau that stretched over a large part of northern South America from the Colombian Mountains into Guyana. Over the time erosion carved steep-walled valleys and crevices into the plateau leaving fragments of the plateau completely isolated. The region remains one of the most thinly settled and one of the most beautiful of all natural areas in South America. From one of these Tepuyes plummets the world's highest waterfall: Angel Falls (979 meters). The fall is more than twice as high as the Empire State Building and three times higher than the Eiffel Tower. Accommodation and dinner at Waku Lodge (superior lodge).

Canaima. Today we have a morning excursion to Kavac Caves. Departure from Canaima airstrip, and flight over the spectacular landscape of Canaima National Park. After approximately 20 minutes, we enter the impressive Devil's Canyon, and soon we see the highest waterfall on earth: Angel Falls. We then land at the airstrip of the small Indian village of Kavac, nestled in the valley of Kamarata, under the sheer walls of the impressive tabletop mountain Auyantepuy. We set off on a pleasant walk, across grassy savannah and through thick rainforest, until arriving at the “Enchanted Valley”, one of the narrowest canyons in the world. Over millions of years a small river has carved a cavernous gorge where the sun hardly reaches the bottom. Guided by local Indians, we will wade and swim through the canyon to the hidden waterfall of Kavac. A small dugout canoe will assist non-swimmers. Return flight to Canaima. Lunch and dinner at camp.

Canaima – Margarita Island. Morning at leisure. At midday, we fly to Margarita Island, via Puerto Ordaz / Caracas. Reception at airport and transfer to our beautiful hotel, for a 4-night stay including all meals. The colorful Margarita Island is located in the Southern Caribbean Sea. It has 244 kilometers of sea-coast, two national parks and three nature reserves, several castles, fortresses, cathedrals and churches, and beautiful beaches for every taste: quiet crystalline beaches where you can only hear the rolling of the waves; beaches like Playa El Agua bordered by small restaurants offering a variety of water sports; Playa El Yaque, the best beach for windsurfing; and many more.
